You hit print, the job sits at "Pending" or "Printing," and then nothing happens. Canceling it doesn't help either, it just stays there and blocks everything you send after it.
On a Ricoh printer, this almost always comes down to the Windows print spooler getting stuck, not a hardware fault. That's good news: it means you can usually sort it out from your desk. Below are the causes worth ruling out, followed by the fixes in the order we'd actually try them, from the fastest option to the one that stops it from happening again.
What Causes This
A stuck queue is rarely random. It's usually one of these:
- A power or connection drop mid-print - Wi-Fi cuts out or the printer loses power while a job is sending, and the spooler never gets the signal that it finished.
- Low ink, an empty tray, or a paper jam - the printer pauses the job and waits, but Windows doesn't always explain why.
- A corrupted job ahead in line - one damaged file can block every document queued behind it.
- An outdated or mismatched print driver - if the driver doesn't match your Ricoh model or your version of Windows, jobs can spool but never actually send.
- Antivirus or firewall interference - some security software scans the spool folder in real time, which can freeze the Print Spooler service.
- The printer shows "offline" even though it's on - common right after a Windows update or a network change.
If your Ricoh's own control panel is showing an error light, low ink warning, or paper jam, clear that first. Otherwise, start with the fixes below.
How to Fix It
Fix 1: Cancel the jobs directly
Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners (or Control Panel > Devices and Printers on older Windows builds), select your Ricoh printer, and choose Open print queue. Right-click each stuck job, select Cancel, then try printing again. This clears most ordinary stuck jobs. If a job won't cancel, or the same job reappears, move to Fix 2.
Fix 2: Restart the Print Spooler service
The Print Spooler is the background service that manages everything sent to your printer. When it freezes, canceling a job does nothing because the service itself isn't responding.
- Press Windows key + R, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
- Send a small test print.
Fix 3: Clear the spool folder manually
If restarting the service didn't clear it, the job file itself may be stuck. This only removes queued print jobs, not your printer settings or your documents.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.

del %systemroot%\System32\spool\PRINTERS\*.* /Q /F /S. - Run
net start spooler. - Send a test print.
Fix 4: Check the job on the printer itself
This is where a Ricoh differs from a small home printer. Most Ricoh models are network devices with their own job memory, so a job can still be stuck on the printer's side even after Windows shows an empty queue.
- On the printer's operation panel, check the job list or job history for anything still marked printing or held.
- If it's on your network, open the printer's IP address in a browser to reach Web Image Monitor, Ricoh's built-in device dashboard, and cancel the job under Job Status or the print job reservation list.
- Power cycle the printer (off, wait about a minute, back on) so it releases anything still held in memory.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the driver
If the same type of job keeps freezing, like PDFs from one specific program, or anything sent over the network, an outdated or mismatched driver is a likely cause. Uninstall the current Ricoh driver, restart your PC, and download the current one for your exact model from Ricoh's official support and downloads site before reinstalling. Skip third-party driver sites; mismatched or bundled drivers from those are a common source of this exact problem.
Fix 6: Automate it for next time
If this keeps happening, save the three commands from Fix 3 as a .bat file in Notepad (save with "All Files" selected and ANSI encoding) so you can clear a stuck queue with one double-click instead of retyping commands.
