When you face the printer offline issue on your printer, you won’t be able to print anything on it. There can be many minor to major reasons behind the same. You must find out the root cause and troubleshoot it to get rid of the Tally printer offline issue. 

Causes of Printer Offline Issue

The Tally printer offline issue can be the outcome of various technical glitches. It can be a printer cable problem or a driver that needs an update or is not installed. The incorrect, incomplete, or open print jobs can also be the reasons for the offline problem. 

 

Solutions to Overcome the Offline Printer Problem: 

Solution 1: Clear All Printer Issues

  • When you find the printer is offline, the first thing that you must look at is whether it is powered on or not. 
  • After that, check for the error message on the screen. 
  • If everything is fine, take out the paper tray and ensure it is appropriately loaded with sufficient paper. 
  • It is also possible that there is a connection problem, low toner, or paper jam. Make sure you clear all the problems to eliminate the printer offline issue. 

Solution 2:  Ensure Proper Connection to WiFi Network

  • A wireless printer easily gets disconnected because of the low WiFi signal. You must make sure the printer is connected to strong WiFi. 
  • Also, ensure the printer and the system are connected to the same wireless network. 
  • The printer’s LCD must show the WiFi name; verify the screen shows the correct wireless network name. 
  • Sometimes, any flaw with the router does not allow the printer to connect with the network and causes the printer offline problem. 

Solution 3: Restart the System and the Printer

  • Power Cycling is one way that helps your printer fix most of the problems. 
  • You need to turn off the printer and the system. 
  • Then, remove the cable from both devices for 30 seconds. 
  • Again, plug the cable back into the devices and wait for a complete reboot of the printer. 
  • Once your printer is switched ON completely, power on the system. 
  • Now, attempt printing a file and verify if the problem persists. 

Solution 4: Check the Tally Printer Offline Setting 

  • Click the Windows icon at the left-bottom corner of the screen. 
  • Tap the Settings icon and click Bluetooth & Devices on the left side of the navigation panel. 
  • When the Bluetooth and Devices window appears, tap the Printers and Scanners option. 
  • After that, click on your Tally printer and choose the “Open print queue” option. 
  • When the printer queue window opens, click the Printer menu, and check “Use Printer Offline” is not checked. 
  • If it is, click the offline option to switch the printer from offline mode to online. 

Solution 5: Clear the Tally Print Jobs in the Queue

  • First, click the Start button and then select the Settings option. 
  • Then, choose Bluetooth & Devices and select Printers and Scanners. 
  • After that, hit your printer and then click the “Open printer queue” option. 
  • Finally, click Printer on the printer queue window and choose “Cancel All Documents.” 

Solution 6: Reset the Printer Spooler Service

  • First, write the “services.msc” command on the Windows search bar. 
  • Then, click the Services app when it prompts on the result section. 
  • After that, right-click the Print Spooler service on the Services window. 
  • In the drop-down menu list, select Restart to reset the spooler service. 

Solution 7: Update the Tally Printer Driver

  • Write the “devmgmt.msc” command in the search box. 
  • Click Device Manager under Settings when it appears on the result. 
  • On the Device Manager screen, click the arrow pointing to the Printers option. 
  • It will expand the Printers category. Select and right-click on your Tally printer. 
  • Now, from the drop-down list, choose the Update Driver option. 
  • Click the option “Search automatically for updated driver software” when asked. 
  • Windows will start detecting available updates and wait till the process gets complete. 
  • After the successful completion of the update, check whether the printer has become online or not. 

Solution 7: Reinstall the Tally Printer Driver

  • Disconnect the USB cable from the Tally printer and the system. 
  • Click the Start button and then hit on the Settings gear icon. 
  • Click the Bluetooth & Devices option and then hit Printers and Scanners. 
  • When the list of devices appears on the screen, select your printer. 
  • Now, click Remove and let the system completely uninstall the printer. 
  • After the complete uninstallation, go to the Printers and Scanners window again 
  • Tap the Add Device option and follow the instructions to set up your printer again on the system. 

Solution 8: Set Your Tally Printer as Default

  • Hit the Windows icon key on the keyboard and then hit the I key. 
  • Choose the Devices and Printers option and select your printer. 
  • Click on the Open Queue button and then hit the Printer option. 
  • Click on the option “Set as default printer” to set your Tally printer as default. 
  • If a message appears saying, “Setting this printer as a default means that Windows will stop managing your default printer.” Then, click the OK button. 
  • Now, you have set your printer as a default printer. Verify if the printer status has been changed from offline to online or not. 

Solution 9: Try Using the Windows Printer Troubleshooter

  • First of all, shove the Windows button and hit the I key. 
  • Then, click Devices and choose Printers and Scanners. 
  • After that, click on the Related Settings option on the right-hand side. 
  • Click on the option “Run the troubleshooter” to open the troubleshooter. 
  • It will perform a series of checks, and if any problem is detected, it will be visible on the screen. It will also let you know the steps to resolve them.

How do I fix the Tally printer offline issue that occurred due to a paper jam?

When the paper gets stuck inside the printer and makes it offline, you need to switch off the printer. After that, you must examine the paper jam issue inside the printer. You can also check it on the printer paper tray. Wherever you find the jammed paper, you must take it out of the printer and ensure there is no torn paper inside. After following this process, verify if the printer offline issue is fixed. 

Whenever you find the printer’s status as offline, you can follow the restart/reset process. Doing this lets the printer start fresh, fixing its minor issues. However, you cannot resolve the major problem of the printer with this method. It would be best to look for other solutions to troubleshoot it.

There can be many reasons behind the offline issue. It can be a system issue, missing updates, incompatible driver, defective port or USB cable, poor Internet, physical printer damage, overuse of the printer, virus, etc.
