Like all technical devices, Samsung printers also face issues sometimes. Common issues include poor print quality, the printer scanner not working, the printer not printing PDF files, and problems with firmware updates. If you’re facing any of these problems, here’s how to solve them.
Note: As HP acquired Samsung’s printer business in 2017, don’t be confused if you’re asked to visit support.hp.com to download Samsung printer drivers.
Issue 1: Poor Print Quality
Poor print quality means that most of the printed text comes out faded, which is not readable. It happens when there is a fault in the printer’s internal component, such as the drum unit. It is a cylindrical part usually attached to the toner cartridges inside the printer. A drum unit is an important component as it transfers toner onto the document or photo to be printed. When this unit gets dirty over time, it can affect the print quality. Clean it using the following steps.
Step 1: Turn off the Printer
- Press the power button on the Samsung printer until the power light turns off.
- Then, disconnect its power cord from the power switch.
Step 2: Open the Front Cover
- Gently open the front cover with your hands.
- Check the drum unit. It’s a large rectangular component attached to the toner cartridges.
Step 3: Release the Drum Unit
Once you have recognized the drum unit, take it out of the printer. It has a blue or green surface like a tube light. Handle it carefully as it is made of glass.
Step 4: Clean the Drum Unit
- Use a lint-free dry cloth to clean this unit.
- Slowly wipe off the dust and debris from the blue or green shiny roller’s surface. Avoid using a wet cloth as it may damage it, and keep your hands away from the roller’s surface, as it can be hot.
Step 5: Reinsert the Drum Unit
Once the drum unit is clean, place it back into the slot. Be careful while reinstalling it, and ensure it fits properly in its place.
Step 6: Close the Front Cover
After placing the drum unit back, close the front cover gently.
Step 7: Turn on the Printer
- Replug the printer’s power cord.
- Press the power button on the printer to turn it on.
Issue 2: Printer Scanner Not Working
If the Samsung printer’s scanner is not working, the scanner drivers are outdated. Due to this, when you press the Scan button, nothing happens. The printer displays “Scanner not found” on its LCD screen. You can fix it by downloading and installing the Samsung scanner drivers.
Step 1: Download
- Visit support.hp.com on an internet browser like Chrome or Firefox.
- Then, click the Software & Drivers option on the screen.
- On the next screen, select Printer and type your Samsung printer model name.
- The PC will automatically detect your operating system. Otherwise, you can select it manually.
- Scroll down and check the “Universal Scan Driver” or related options on the page.
- Download the scanner driver package by clicking the Download button next to it.
It will start downloading on your computer and will be saved under the Downloads folder.
Step 2: Install
- Navigate to the Downloads folder and find the driver’s file.
- Double-click on the file and select Yes when your system asks you to run it.
- Allow the scanner driver installer to install the software on your computer, and don’t shut down the PC during this process.
Finally, you have updated the scanner drivers for a Samsung printer. Now, you can start scanning again.
Issue 3: Firmware Update Error
Firmware is the internal software that controls how the printer functions. A Samsung printer gets a firmware update, just like your mobile gets updates. You update it via computer. This update can be interrupted by a power cut or by using the wrong file (you accidentally downloaded firmware for another printer model). In this situation, the printer won’t print and display “firmware error” or will go blank. Thankfully, you can fix this error by reinstalling the firmware for your specific Samsung printer model.
Step 1: Download
- Visit support.hp.com and click the Software and Drivers option.
- Then, click the Printer option and search for your exact Samsung printer model in the search bar.
- Scroll down the page and click the firmware option. Now, click the Download button next to a firmware file and the firmware updater tool.
- If you don’t find the firmware updater tool, download the Samsung Diagnostic Tool.
Step 2: Install
- Double-click the downloaded file in your computer’s Downloads folder.
- Then, a prompt will appear asking you, “Do you want this app to make changes to your computer?” Click Yes to allow.
- Now, an installation window will appear. Click Next and allow the installation process to finish.
- Once installed, open the tool on your computer. It will automatically find the firmware and update it.
The firmware update is completed. Ensure that you don’t shut down your PC during this process. Otherwise, the issue will happen again.
