If your printer stops while processing a print job, the printer’s screen displays the “paper jam” error message, or the light on the printer blinks yellow or red; it indicates a paper jam. It usually happens when there are many pending print jobs in the paper tray, paper is not stored correctly in the tray, or the printer’s connection is not working. Besides, out-of-date printer drivers can also be a big reason for the paper jams. If you often use your printer, you will encounter a paper jam is obvious. And it generally happens because of our mistakes.
Mistake 1: Overloading the Print Queue
This is a very common mistake that people make while printing. They send too many print jobs. If that’s the case, you should clear the print queue.
Step 1: Disable the Print Spooler
Print spooler is a feature on the Windows computer that handles the print jobs, and by disabling it, you can delete the print requests.
- First of all, click the Start button on the computer’s taskbar at the bottom and search for the Services option.
- Then, find the Print Spooler option by scrolling down the list of programs.
- Now, double-click on that option, change the Startup type from Automatic to Disabled using the drop-down menu, and click OK.
Step 2: Cancel the Documents
- Then, close that window and open the Run command box by pressing the Windows and R keys together on the keyboard.
- Type spool in that box and click OK. Now, select the Printers option on the new screen and open it.
- You will see all the print jobs under this section. Select each job and right-click on it to delete it. Delete all the pending jobs from the queue.
Step 3: Restart the Print Spooler
Once you have canceled the documents from the print queue, you can restart the print spooler to restart your printing tasks again.
- To begin, click the Start menu on your computer’s taskbar and search for the Services option once again.
- Then, scroll down to find the print spooler option and double-click on it.
- Choose the Startup type as Automatic from the drop-down menu, and click Apply.
Now, you can start printing again and check if the paper jam is cleared. If not, you can try another method.
Mistake 2: Not Storing Papers Correctly
When you don’t store the papers correctly in the paper tray, it can lead to a paper jam error on your Toshiba printer. If the papers are not processed, they will not be printed and will show errors. To check for this error, use the steps below.
Solution: Check the Paper Tray
- Start by opening the paper tray located at the front of the printer. Gently pull out the tray outside.
- Then, take out all the papers from the tray to check if they are bent or damaged.
- If you find any paper curled, wrinkled, or stuck inside the tray, remove it.
- If you observe that the paper tray is dirty, use a moist cloth to clean it.
- Let it dry, and then place the papers that are in good condition and align them correctly in the tray so that no paper gets bent or curled.
- Finally, close the paper tray by pushing it back to its place.
Overall, you will realign the papers and clean them. You can use a torch to find any stuck pieces of paper in the tray and remove them with your hands or tweezers.
Mistake 3: Not Refilling Ink
When you don’t refill the ink on your Toshiba printer, it will show an error, such as a paper jam. When there is insufficient ink, your printer won’t respond to the print requests. In this case, you must replace the cartridges that contain the ink.
Solution: Check the Ink Levels
- To start, you must open the access door at the top or front of the printer. Slowly pull or lift the door, depending on its location on your printer. (Note: If you can’t find it, refer to your printer’s manual.)
- Then, you will see a series of cartridges installed with a label indicating the color they contain. Take out the cartridges from the slot and shake them to check the ink levels.
- If you find any cartridge empty, discard it and prepare a new cartridge of the same color. Remove its packaging.
- Place it in the slot by checking the label on the cartridge and the slot.
- Finally, close the access door by gently pushing it back into the slot. If multiple cartridges are empty, follow the same procedure.
