Dell Printer Driver

When you encounter a driver issue, the printer may stop working. Because of this, you won't be able to print any documents. You may receive a driver error message on the screen indicating the Dell printer driver problem.

Causes:

There can be several reasons behind the driver issue. Some of them include:

  • The settings are wrong.
  • The drivers are corrupt or incompatible.
  • The drivers have become out-of-date.
  • The system needs an update.

Solutions

Solution 1: Restart the Printer With Data Cables Removed

  • First, switch off the Dell printer.
  • Then, remove all data cables or wireless networks from the printer (USB, Fax, Parallel, and Ethernet).
  • With all the connections removed, switch on the printer.
  • If the printer finishes the Power On Self-Test (POST) without showing any error, print a settings report.
  • If the printer prints the report successfully, the problem may be due to the hardware. You may require to fix the problem by clearing the print queues.
  • If the report shows a 016-xxx error, you may need to restart the unit and perform the NVRAM reset.
  • Reset the NVRAM of the printer and print the report again. If the report still shows the 016-xxx error, you must contact Dell support.

Solution 2: Reinstall the Dell Printer Driver

  • Completely delete the driver from the system and other print software.
  • After removing, reboot the system and then restart the print spooler service.
  • Download the latest version of the Dell printer driver and install it on the system.
  • After reinstalling the driver, print a Windows test page and check if the issue is fixed.
  • If the problem persists, clear the print job and restart the printer.
  • Again, print a test page with a driver other than the current driver.
  • If the printer problem occurs after reinstallation or the multiple drivers on the system, the spooler may corrupt the system. You must update the firmware of the printer.

Solution 3: Change the IP Address of the Printer

  • Power off the printer and remove all data cables from the printer.
  • Also, disconnect the printer from the wireless networks.
  • Now, turn on the printer with the data cables disconnected.
  • In the printer's control panel, modify the printer's IP address to a static address.
  • This IP address of the printer must differ from the previous one and is not allocated to any other device on the network.
  • Reconnect the Dell printer to the data cable or the network connections and verify if the error does show again.
  • If the error does not arise again, then the problem is resolved.

Solution 4: Clear the Jobs in the Print Queues

  • To clear the print files, stop the print spooler service.
  • Navigate to the C drive and then open the Windows folder.
  • After that, open the System32 folder and then select Spool.
  • Browse to the PRINTERS option and then remove all the files.
  • You have cleared all the jobs in the print queue; restart the print spooler.
  • Reconnect the cable or the network, and then again restart the printer.
  • Wait for some minutes for the unit to regain the connection.
  • If the problem occurs before you send a new print job, modify the printer's IP address.
  • If the printer error does not occur, print a test page. If the error occurs after you print a test page, then the driver is corrupt.
  • Delete the print job and restart the printer. Now, print the test page from a different system. If the error does not appear, reinstall the driver.

FAQs

Does resetting the printer's NVRAM resolve the printer driver issue?

Yes, it can be. The printers retain the print jobs in their memory, even the corrupt jobs. Performing the reset process of the NVRAM helps remove all the jobs from memory. When you try to print the job after the printer's NVRAM reset, the problem must have been resolved.

If the printer's firmware is outdated or experiencing any bug, it may create a driver issue. You must ensure you download and install good firmware from a trusted downloading site. Also, ensure the printer must have up-to-date firmware.

While using the Dell printer, users come across many error codes. One of the most common ones of them is 016-xxx. The problem may arise due to corrupt drivers, missing updates, etc.
