Dell Printer Setup Issue

There are multiple ways of setting up your printer to your system or the network. Any Dell printer setup issue may obstruct the connection and not allow you to take prints. You must fix it to connect the Dell printer to the system.

Causes

  • Unreliable connection
  • Out-of-date printers
  • Damages system files
  • Faulty printer component

Solutions:

Solution 1: Fix the Printer Setup Problem When Connected Via USB Cable

  • If the printer is attached via USB and unable to print a file, check the printer LCD for any error notification.
  • If there is no error message, verify that your printer is the default printer.
  • Also, remove other devices attached between the system and the printer.
  • Reseat the USB cable attached to the system and the printer. Unplug and replug both ends of the cable.
  • Check for the Windows "Found New Hardware" pop-up installer. If it is not displayed, try using another USB port on the system.
  • If it is still not displayed, try using a different functioning USB cable and then test.
  • You can also test the connection by inserting the printer USB cable into another system.
  • If the above steps fail, remove the driver and install it again on the system.
  • Double-click on the Dell printer icon if you cannot uninstall the driver. It will open the print queue.
  • Delete all the things from the print queue and try uninstalling the printer driver again.
  • After that, reboot the system and reinstall the driver from the supplied disk.
  • Download the driver to the system's C driver and then install and save it in the Dell folder.
  • On the Devices and Printers option, click Add Printer and then choose Add Local Printer.
  • Choose "Use an existing port" and select "USB001 Virtual Printer Port" from its drop-down list.
  • Click on the "Have Disk" button and then click on Browse to select the Dell folder in the C drive of the system.
  • Choose the driver folder and select a 32 or 64-bit driver according to the operating system.
  • Select the driver file, click the Open button, and then select OK. Now, add the printer name to modify it and click Next.
  • Select your printer as default and hit the "Print Test Page" button. If the test page is printed, it means the issue is fixed.

Solution 2: Resolve Dell Printer Setup Issue When Connected Via WiFi Network

  • If the printer is connected to the system wirelessly, uninstall the corrupt/wrong driver.
  • Press the Windows button and then hit the R key to open the Run box.
  • Enter the command "appwiz.cpi" and press the Enter button on the keyboard.
  • Click the printer you want to delete, select Uninstall and confirm the printer removal.
  • Restart the system, go to the system's control panel, and press the Enter key.
  • Click "View devices and printers," right-click on your printer, and choose "Remove device."
  • Tap Yes on the "User Account Control" dialog box when it appears on the screen.
  • Click Yes to disconnect the printer from the system. Select any other connected printing machine and then click Print Server Properties.
  • Go to the Driver tab, click your printer and choose the Remove option to delete the printer.
  • Now, restart the system and reinstall the Dell printer driver on the system.
  • Open the web browser, go to the Dell site, and enter the printer's, Service Tag.
  • It will show the printer driver list according to the product model, then click Search.
  • Under the Operation System, select the Operation System that matches the one installed on the system.
  • Under the Download list, check for the application or driver's files for OS deployment.
  • Note the File Names listed and ensure the checkbox is selected for each file.
  • Click the Download All option to start the downloading process on the system.
  • Right-click on the downloaded driver file on the download location and select "Run as administrator."
  • Click Yes on the User Account Window, and the re-installation process will start. Follow the prompts and complete the process.

FAQs

Is Clearing a Print Queue Help Resolve the Printer Setup Issue?

Yes, it is possible. When the print jobs get stuck in the queue, it does not allow the printer to function correctly. There can be several reasons behind it causing the printer problem. You must clear the print queue by deleting unnecessary print tasks to fix it. Visit the "Devices and Printers" window, and right-click on your printer. Then, choose the "See what's printing" option and tap Printer. After that, choose "Cancel All Documents" and confirm by clicking on Yes.

If you are using Windows 10, go to the control panel and Devices and Printers. Select and right-click on your printer and choose Printer Properties. Now, go to the Ports tab and click on the Configure Port. Check the IP address, and the printer name matches the printer's IP address. If not, edit them as shown in the settings report and click OK.

Unreliable connection is one of the common problems because of which setup issues happen. If the printer is set up via the USB cable, ensure it is correctly attached to it and the system. Also, make sure the USB cables are working fine and properly seated. If connected wirelessly, ensure the printer and the system is connected to the strong WiFi signal.
