OKI Printer Driver: Download, Install, and Fix It When It Won't Work

Get the right driver for your OKI printer or MFP, install it on Windows 11 or a Mac, and clear the Windows 11 quirks that stop OKI printers from printing properly.

OKI printers are built to run for years, and plenty of offices still rely on a C332, an MC573, or a MICROLINE dot matrix that's been printing invoices since long before Windows 11 existed. The hardware usually isn't the weak spot. The driver is. When Windows picks a generic driver on its own, when an old OKI driver is still hanging around, or when a newer Windows security feature quietly blocks the installer, you end up with a printer that shows as offline, jobs that sit in the queue, or a print window missing your trays, duplex, and color settings.

This page walks through where to get the official OKI driver, which of OKI's several driver types to choose, how to install it, how to fix it when it misbehaves, and what Microsoft's 2026 printing changes mean for your OKI printer.

A quick note: Printer Tales is an independent troubleshooting resource and isn't affiliated with OKI. OKI stopped selling printers in the US, Canada, and Latin America in 2021, but it still hosts drivers for its existing models. Download them only from OKI's official site, oki.com.

Before You Install: What to Check First

Five minutes here saves a lot of reinstalling later.

• Your model name. OKI prints it on the side of the printer. The small letters at the end (like the "dn" in C332dn) sometimes aren't shown. OKI says that's fine: if you can't find an exact match on the download site, pick the closest model name, because the driver is shared. For example, an MC873 owner can choose either MC873dn or MC873dnv.
• Your serial number, if you plan to contact support. Depending on the model, it's on the back, on the left or right side, or inside the top cover.
• Your system type. On Windows 11, open Settings > System > About and check System type. Laptops with Snapdragon or other ARM processors, and PCs running Windows 11 in S mode, can't use OKI's standard driver packages. There's a different option for those, covered below.
• How the printer connects. For a network printer, confirm the printer and computer are on the same network. Then print a configuration or network information page from the printer's menu and note the printer's IP address. For USB, have the cable ready, but check the install steps below before you plug it in.
• Administrator access. Driver installs make system changes, so you'll need to approve a Windows permission prompt or enter your Mac password.
• Smart App Control (Windows 11). OKI warns that when this Windows security feature is on, its drivers, utilities, and other software can't be installed or used. You'll find it under Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > App & browser control > Smart App Control settings.

How to Download the OKI Printer Driver

OKI drivers are free. If a site asks you to pay, or wants you to install a "driver updater" before you get the file, close the tab.

1. Go to oki.com/us/printing/support and open Drivers & Utilities.
2. Choose your printer category: Color Printers, Mono Printers, Color Multifunction Printers, Mono Multifunction Printers, or Dot Matrix Printers. Wide format, production, envelope, and transfer printers have their own sections.
3. Click your model in the list.
4. Set the Select Operating System filter to your exact system, such as Windows 11, Windows 10 (64bit), or macOS 15. Leave the language on English unless you need another.
5. Pick the driver you want from the Driver list and click Download Here.
6. Accept the software license agreement to start the download, and save the file somewhere easy to find.

Which OKI Driver Should You Pick?

This is the part that trips people up. Many OKI models list several drivers for the same version of Windows, and they aren't interchangeable in every situation.

• PCL6 printer driver: The practical choice for most offices. It handles everyday printing from Word, Excel, browsers, accounting software, and PDFs, and it's the one to start with if you're not sure.
• PS (PostScript) printer driver: OKI recommends it for documents that use PostScript fonts or EPS files. Designers and anyone printing from Adobe apps usually prefer it. It's also the driver OKI provides for Mac.
• Universal PCL5 and Universal XPS Embedded drivers: One driver that works across many OKI color and mono printers and MFPs. It's useful when IT manages a mix of OKI models, but OKI has documented a few Windows 11 limitations with the Universal PCL5 driver (see the fix section below).
• OKI PCL6 Class Driver 2: OKI's answer for Windows 11 on ARM and Windows 11 in S mode. It covers mono and color printers and MFPs, but only the paper sizes listed in the driver. Custom paper sizes aren't supported. Dot matrix printers, label printers, and OKI utilities aren't supported on those systems at all.
• Dot matrix drivers: MICROLINE models have their own emulation-based drivers. The MICROLINE 320 Turbo, for example, lists an ESC/P printer driver for Windows 11, along with OKI's DIPUS utility for controlling the printer from your PC.
• Linux and ChromeOS: Supported models offer a PPD file for CUPS. Set the operating system filter to Linux or Chrome OS to find it.

The Utility list on the same page holds optional extras, such as Color Correct Utility, Configuration Tool, and PDF Print Direct. You don't need any of them to print, so only download the ones you know you'll use.

How to Install the OKI Printer Driver

On Windows 10 and Windows 11 (OKI's installer)

This is the route OKI's own support pages describe, and it's the least likely to go wrong.

1. Double-click the file you downloaded.
2. When User Account Control appears, click Yes.
3. The file extracts itself into a folder with the same name as the download, then starts the installer.
4. Choose your language and click OK.
5. Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
6. Follow the on-screen steps to select your printer and connection type. For a network printer that isn't found automatically, enter its IP address.
7. If you already have an older OKI driver installed, the installer asks whether to install the newer version. Follow the prompts. You may need to restart before it continues.
8. If Program Compatibility Assistant pops up at the end, click This program installed correctly.
9. Print a test page from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners: click your OKI printer and choose Print test page.

Connecting by USB on Windows 11? Run OKI's installer first and connect the cable when it asks. If you plug in first, Windows 11 may set the printer up with its own generic driver instead, and the printer shows up with a name like "OKI LTD" followed by the model. That's fixable (see below), but it's easier to avoid.

The manual method (when the installer won't cooperate)

If the installer keeps failing, you can point Windows at the driver files yourself.

1. Run the downloaded file once so it extracts into its folder, then close the installer.
2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and click Add device.
3. Wait a moment, then click Add manually next to "The printer that I want isn't listed."
4. Choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
5. For USB, select the existing USB001 port (or the next USB number if you have several printers). For a network printer, create a Standard TCP/IP Port and type the printer's IP address.
6. Click Have Disk, then Browse to the extracted folder and select the driver's .inf file.
7. Pick your OKI model from the list, name the printer, choose whether to share it, and finish with a test page.

On a Mac

Many of OKI's newer LED printers and MFPs support AirPrint, which lets a Mac print without installing any driver. That's fine for everyday documents. Install OKI's PS driver when you want your model's full set of options, such as optional trays and OKI's color controls.

To install the OKI Mac driver:

1. Download the Mac driver for your model and macOS version from oki.com.
2. Double-click the downloaded file. A disk image opens.
3. Double-click the installer inside it, enter your Mac admin password, and finish the steps on screen.
4. Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners (called System Preferences on older macOS versions).
5. Click Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax (or the + button on older versions) and stay on the Default tab.
6. Select your OKI printer and check that the Use menu shows your OKI model's driver, not AirPrint or Generic PostScript. Click Add.
7. If Installable Options appears, set any extra trays or memory your printer has and click Continue or OK.
8. Back in the printer list, the Type or Kind field should show the OKI driver name.

Upgraded to macOS 26 Tahoe? Check your model's download page with the filter set to macOS 26. On at least some models, OKI publishes a separate PS driver package for macOS 26 instead of extending the older Mac package. That means the driver you used on macOS 15 may not be the one you need now.

Fixing OKI Printer Driver Problems

Find the symptom that matches what's happening on your screen, and start there.

The installer won't run, or it quits partway

• Check Smart App Control first. If it's on, OKI says its software can't be installed or used. Look under Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > App & browser control > Smart App Control settings. Read Microsoft's notes before you change it, since this setting isn't always simple to turn back on.
• Make sure you have the right package. A standard OKI driver won't install on a Windows on ARM laptop. Those PCs need the OKI PCL6 Class Driver 2.
• Download it again. A download that got interrupted can look normal and still be damaged.
• Run it as administrator. Right-click the file and choose Run as administrator.

The Print Spooler is stopped

1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
2. Double-click Print Spooler.
3. If it says Stopped, click Start and set Startup type to Automatic.
4. Run the OKI installer again.

An old OKI driver keeps getting in the way

This follows OKI's own removal steps, adapted for Windows 11. You'll need to be signed in as an administrator.

1. Restart the computer first so nothing is waiting in the print queue.
2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the OKI printer, and click Remove. If Windows says the device is in use, restart and try again.
3. On the same page, open Print server properties under Related settings.
4. On the Drivers tab, click Change Driver Settings if you see it, select the OKI driver, and click Remove.
5. Choose Remove driver and driver package, then confirm. If Windows refuses, restart and repeat steps 3 to 5.
6. Restart the computer and install the fresh driver from oki.com.

The printer shows up as "OKI LTD" followed by the model name

That name means Windows installed its own Microsoft IPP Class Driver instead of OKI's. Printing may work, but you'll be missing OKI's settings. OKI's fix:

1. Install the OKI driver package first if you haven't already.
2. In Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, click the OKI LTD printer and open Printer properties.
3. On the Advanced tab, choose your OKI driver from the Driver list and click Apply.
4. For a PCL6 or Universal PCL6 driver, go to Device Options, click Get Printer Information, then Apply. For a PS driver, go to Device Settings, click Get Printer Information, then Setup, then Apply.

If no printer icon was created at all after connecting by USB, uninstall what's there and run OKI's installer using its USB setup option.

To stop this happening on the next install, turn off Default install printers using Windows Ready Print under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners before you add the printer. OKI specifically recommends this when installing without its installer.

Windows protected print mode is turned on

When this Windows 11 security setting is on, Windows only uses its built-in driver, and OKI's driver packages can't create a working printer. You'll find it on the same Printers & scanners page. On a work PC, leave it to your IT team. On your own PC, an administrator can turn it off and then run the OKI installer.

Pages print with strange text like "POST /ipp/print HTTP/1.1"

OKI has confirmed this on several USB-connected models under Windows 11. It's caused by how Windows talks to the printer over USB, not by a fault in the printer. OKI lists three ways out:

• Install the latest Windows 11 updates. Microsoft has fixed versions of this in cumulative updates.
• Switch to a network connection instead of USB.
• Turn off IPP on the printer through its web page. The catch: you'll also lose IPP printing, AirPrint, and IPP Everywhere.

Apps freeze at the print window, or watermarks don't print

OKI has documented both of these with its Universal PCL5 driver on Windows 11. On version 22H2, some apps freeze when the print dialog opens, and on 23H2, watermarks don't print. The fix in both cases is to switch drivers: use the Universal PCL6 driver if your model offers it, or your model's own PCL6 or PS driver.

The installer can't find your network printer

• Make sure the printer isn't on a guest Wi-Fi network, which usually blocks devices from seeing each other.
• Print a fresh configuration page to confirm the current IP address.
• Turn off any VPN during the install.
• Enter the IP address manually rather than waiting on the automatic search.

How to Update the OKI Printer Driver

Update the driver after a major Windows or macOS upgrade, when a print feature stops working, or when OKI lists a newer version for your model. If everything prints the way it should, you don't need to go looking for updates.

Why Windows Update and Device Manager aren't the answer anymore

The usual advice is to run Windows Update or click Update driver in Device Manager. Neither one reliably gets you a newer OKI driver now. As of January 15, 2026, Microsoft stopped publishing new printer drivers to Windows Update for Windows 11, and Device Manager's automatic search pulls from the same place. Keep running Windows Update for security and printing fixes, but get the driver itself from OKI:

1. Go to your model's page under Drivers & Utilities on oki.com/us.
2. Set the operating system filter and compare the Version number shown with what you installed.
3. If OKI's version is newer, download and run it. The installer detects the older driver and walks you through replacing it.
4. Restart if asked, then print a test page.

If Windows won't let the new version replace the old one, remove the old driver completely using the steps in the fix section above, then install fresh.

On a Mac

AirPrint users only need to keep macOS current in System Settings > General > Software Update. If you use OKI's PS driver and something breaks after a macOS upgrade, check your model's page for a package built for your new macOS version.

Firmware is a separate update

Your model's OKI page also has a Firmware tab. Firmware runs inside the printer, not on your computer, and it doesn't replace the driver. If you do update it, follow OKI's instructions for your model and don't power off the printer until it's finished.

Why Windows 11 Keeps Choosing Its Own Driver for Your OKI Printer

If a recently added OKI printer shows Microsoft IPP Class Driver as its driver, Windows is doing what Microsoft designed it to do in 2026. Microsoft is moving away from manufacturer printer drivers on Windows 11 in stages.

The timeline Microsoft has published:

• January 15, 2026: New printer drivers are no longer published to Windows Update for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025.
• June 2026: Microsoft introduced Windows Ready Print, along with a setting to control it: Default install printers using Windows Ready Print. When it's on, new printers install with the Microsoft driver where supported. When it's off, Windows goes back to its standard driver selection. Changing it only affects printers you add afterward.
• July 1, 2026: Windows ranks its built-in IPP driver first whenever a printer supports it.
• July 1, 2027: Updates to manufacturer printer drivers will be limited to security fixes.

What this means for OKI owners

OKI's installers still work. Microsoft has said Windows will keep allowing manufacturer driver packages to install and has no plans to remove features those drivers already provide.

The Microsoft driver handles basic printing on supported models. What it won't give you is the full set of OKI options your printer is built for. And some OKI printers, including dot matrix models and older lasers, don't support IPP at all, so they still depend entirely on OKI's driver. If you rely on those, turning off the Windows Ready Print setting before adding the printer keeps setup predictable.

How to check which driver your OKI printer is using

1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and click your OKI printer.
2. Open Printer properties and select the Advanced tab.
3. The Driver field shows what's in use. Once OKI's driver is installed, you can pick it from this list and click Apply.
