A Xerox printer can show certain error codes and messages on its screen when something is wrong with it. For instance, when the ink levels are running low or any internal part of the printer is damaged. Whenever any problem occurs, the printer will reflect it through the error message or code on its display. Let’s check out some of these errors with their solutions.
Error 1: Toner Low / Replace Toner Cartridge
When the printer shows this error message, it means that the toner cartridge is empty. To fix it, you have to replace the ink cartridge. The toner or ink cartridge is a part of the printer that stores ink and prints the document when you send a print command. Let’s check how to remove this error on the Xerox printer.
Step 1: Turn Off the Printer
In the first step, you should turn the printer off. Let’s check how to turn it off:
- Press and hold the power button on the printer to turn it off.
- Then, remove the printer’s power cable from the power switch on the wall.
Step 2: Open the Printer’s Front Cover
The printer’s front cover is the location where ink toners are installed. To remove the toners, you first need to open this door. It is located at the front of the printer. Pull it out gently with your hands.
Step 3: Remove the Old Cartridge
When you open the door, you’ll notice ink cartridges arranged in a sequence in the color-coded slots. Each slot is coded with the color of the cartridge it installs. So, you have to take out the cartridge slowly.
But which cartridge is empty?
The printer’s display can show the empty cartridge (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black). The black ink toner is the key toner. So, if it is empty, you’ll have to replace it immediately.
Moreover, you can shake the cartridges to check which one is empty.
Step 4: Prepare the New Cartridge
When you know which cartridge needs a replacement, get the new cartridge of the same color. Remove the packaging and adhesives from the toner. Ensure that you replace only the empty toner.
Step 5: Install the New Toner Cartridge
Now, place the cartridge into the slot. Match the cartridge label with the slot’s color code. Then, slowly fit the toner into the respective slot. Ensure that it clicks in place.
Step 6: Close the Printer’s Front Door
Once you have installed the toner cartridge into the right slot, it’s time to close the printer’s front door, which you opened earlier. To open it, gently push the door into its place.
Step 7: Turn On the Printer
When the printer’s door is closed, you need to turn the printer on again. Check the steps below to do it:
- Reconnect the printer’s power cable that you removed earlier to the power switch on the wall.
- Finally, press the power button on the printer to turn it on.
Error 2: Fuser Error
A fuser error shows the problem within a fuser unit installed in the printer, which helps the toner stick to paper. In short, the fuser unit helps print documents. If there is an issue in this unit, your printer won’t print. Whenever this error occurs, the printer will display a fuser error message. So, if your printer is showing it, follow the steps given below.
Fix 1: Restart the Xerox Printer
Your first step should be to restart the printer when it shows the “fuser error” on its display. Check how to restart it.
- To begin, press and hold the power button on the printer to turn it off.
- Then, disconnect the printer’s power cord from the power switch on the wall.
- Now, wait for 1-2 minutes and reconnect the cable to the power switch on the wall again.
- After that, press and hold the power button on the printer to turn it on.
Fix 2: Let the Printer Cool Down
Sometimes, when you have been using the printer for a long time, it can overheat. Therefore, you should turn off the printer for 15-20 minutes. After that, check if the error is gone. If the error still persists, you can follow the next method.
Fix 3: Replace the Fuser Unit
If the first two methods are not working for the fuser unit error, you can just replace it. Check out the steps involved in it:
Step 1: Turn Off the Printer
- Press the power button on the printer to turn it on.
- Then, remove the printer power cable from the power switch on the wall.
- Now, let it cool down for 30 minutes.
The fuser unit will be very hot, and you can get hurt if you touch it straight away. So, don’t touch it for the next 30 minutes.
Step 2: Open the Printer’s Rear Door
The fuser unit is located at the back of the Xerox printer. So, you need to open the printer’s rear door. Gently pull out the door towards you to take out the fuser unit.
Note: To know the location of the door and its appearance, you can check the printer’s manual. You can also Google the manual.
Step 3: Remove the Old Fuser Unit
After opening the door, you’ll see the fuser unit, a rectangular piece with blue latches or screws holding it in place. You have to release the latches or unscrew the screws to take out the fuser unit. You can use your hands, but ensure that they’re not too hot. If yes, allow it to cool first or use a cloth. Fuser units can have a warning message saying “Caution” or “Hot surface.”
Step 4: Prepare the New Fuser Unit
Take a new fuser unit and remove its packaging and adhesive tapes. You should check that it’s according to your Xerox printer model. So buy it after matching it with the printer.
Step 5: Insert the New Fuser Unit
Place the new fuser unit in the place where you’ve removed the old unit. Ensure that it sits properly. Close the latches or screw the unit depending on the type of fuser unit.
Step 6: Close the Printer’s Rear Door
Close the rear door of the printer that you’ve opened earlier. To close, gently push it into place.
Step 7: Turn On the Printer
Once you have replaced the fuser unit, it’s time to turn the printer on. To turn it on:
- Reconnect the printer’s power cable to the power switch on the wall.
- Then, press and hold the power button at the front of the printer to turn it on.
Let the lights blink on the printer.
