A paper jam error means that a piece of paper or an object is stuck inside the printer. If your Xerox printer is saying “paper jam,” “clear jam,” or “check tray” messages, you need to check its paper tray for any obstacles. It is a very common issue to occur when you print regularly. Almost all users experience a paper jam error occasionally. However, you can fix this problem in 5 simple steps as written below. 

Step 1: Turn Off the Printer

As you need to touch the internal parts of the printer, it has to be turned off. Check the steps below to turn it off completely: 

Press and hold the power button on the printer to turn it off. The lights on the printer will also turn off. 

Then, remove its power cable from the power switch on the wall. 

Step 2: Open All the Doors of the Printer

Your Xerox printer has two doors- front and rear. The paper tray should also be taken out to check for paper leftovers. Let’s check how. 

1. Open the front door by gently pulling it open towards you. 
2. Then, open the rear door located at the back of the printer. Gently pull it out to open it.
3. Now open the paper tray located at the front bottom of the printer by slowly pulling it out like a drawer. 

Step 3: Remove the Jammed Papers

You have to check all the doors to remove the stuck papers or objects. You can use your hands to remove anything you find as the printer is turned off. If it is difficult to check, use a flashlight. If the paper pieces are too small, use tweezers to pluck them up. 

Check both doors for stuck objects and remove all the objects slowly. If there is insufficient paper in the paper tray, install more paper. 

Step 4: Close the Doors 

This is the time to close all the doors. Gently push the front and rear doors back into place. Once the doors are cleaned and stuck papers are removed, close the doors. Also, close the paper tray just like a drawer. 

Step 5: Turn On the Printer

1. Reconnect the printer’s power cable to the power switch on the wall. 
2. Press and hold the power button on the printer to turn it on. The lights will also turn on.
