HP Printer Won’t Print After Ink Refill – Easy Fix
Refilling your HP ink cartridges is a great way to save money, but it often leads to a frustrating problem: the printer refuses to print in color or the output is streaky. This usually happens because air bubbles or dried ink are clogging the print head nozzles.
Follow this step-by-step guide to clean your print head and get your colors back to normal.
Tools You Will Need
- Before starting, gather these simple items:
- Warm water
- A medical syringe (without the needle)
- Soft tissues or paper towels
- Rubber gloves (to avoid ink stains)
Step 1: Remove the Cartridges
- Turn on your HP printer and open the front access door.
- Wait for the carriage to move to the center and stop completely.
- Locate the blue latch on the print head assembly.
- Gently press down on the latch and pull the color cartridge toward you to release it. Set it aside on a tissue.
Step 2: Flush the Print Head Nozzles
- This is the "pro secret" for fixing ink flow issues.
- Fill your syringe with a small amount of warm water.
- Locate the small circular nozzles where the ink enters the print head.
- Place a thick layer of tissue underneath the print head assembly to catch excess water and ink.
- Slowly inject the warm water directly into the nozzle.
- Repeat this process for each color nozzle (Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow) until the water running through comes out clear.
Step 3: Dry and Reinstall
- Use a dry, lint-free tissue to carefully dab away any moisture from the outside of the print head.
Note: Ensure the electrical contacts are completely dry before proceeding.
- Slide the cartridges back into their respective slots.
- Push the blue latch back down until it clicks into place.
- Close the printer door.
Step 4: Run a Test Print
- Wait for the printer to initialize.
- Go to your computer’s Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your HP printer and select Printer Properties.
- Click Print Test Page to verify that the colors are flowing correctly.
Still Having Issues?
If the manual cleaning doesn't work, your printer might need a Driver Update or a deeper Software Reset.
