Tally Printer not printing

When you’re giving print commands but nothing is happening, it means you’re facing a printer not printing issue with your Tally printer.

It’s very annoying when you’re constantly pressing Ctrl+P or clicking the Print button endlessly, but your Tally printer is unmoved. No sound, no moving paper, and no error messages, just silence.

You can get rid of this issue by following these steps.

Step 1: Ensure that your Tally printer is on

Look at the front side of your Tally printer, and there should be a green or orange light. If not, your Tally printer is not getting power. Here’s what you need to do in such a case.

  1. Press the Power button. It is usually a big round button on the front or top of the printer for turning it on. If you see a light after pressing it, try giving the print command again.
  2. Check that the power cable is pushed all the way in on both ends, at the back of your printer, and into the wall socket.
  3. A wall socket or extension board can also be a problem sometimes. Try using a different wall plug.

Step 2: Look at the USB Cables or Wi-Fi

If there’s an issue with the connection between your Tally printer and computer, the printer will fail to print. Here’s how to check the connections.

For USB Cable Connection

  1. There’ll be a thick cable connecting your printer to the computer. Make sure that it is fully inserted on both ends - one end into the printer and the other into a USB port on your PC.
  2. Unplug and plug both ends again. It sounds silly, but sometimes cables just need a little nudge to work properly.

For Ethernet Cable Connection

  1. Look at the back of your Tally printer, and you’ll see a blue or gray Ethernet cable plugged in.
  2. The other end of the cable should be plugged into a Wi-Fi router or into a wall socket (if you’re in an office).
  3. Sometimes, the issue can be because of a loose end. Therefore, unplug both ends and then plug them in tightly again.

If your Tally printer is still not printing, restart your Wi-Fi router. Because sometimes, Wi-Fi stops working, causing the printer to stop printing.

  1. You’ll see a power cable plugged into the back of the router. Unplug its other end from the wall socket.
  2. Wait for about 30 seconds, plug it back in, and let all the lights turn back on. This won’t take more than 2 minutes.
  3. After that, turn off your printer, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.

This should refresh your Tally printer’s Internet connection.

For Wireless Connection

  1. On your computer, click the Windows Start button located on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.
  2. Using the search box, search for Printers & Scanners and open it.
  3. On the next screen, find your Tally printer and check if it’s showing as online or offline.

Online status means the connection has no issues, and offline status means your PC has lost connection with the printer.

Follow the steps to restart the Wi-Fi router as stated in the previous (“For Ethernet Cable Connection”) section. It will help you bring your offline Tally printer back online.

Step 3: Clear the Print Queue

When several print jobs are stuck in the queue, it can stop a printer from printing. Here’s how to clear your Tally printer’s print queue.

  1. On your computer, click the Start button (at the bottom of your screen).
  2. Type Printers & Scanners into the search bar and open it.
  3. Find your Tally printer in the list and click on it.
  4. You’ll see a button that says Open Queue, click that.
  5. Now, you’ll see a list of pages that tried to print but failed. Right-click on each one and select  Cancel.

Once the list is empty, close the window and try printing again.

Step 4: Re-add the Printer

If nothing else has worked so far, your computer might just need to reconnect with the Tally printer from scratch.

  1. Open Printers & Scanners again on your computer.
  2. Click on your Tally printer and choose Remove or Forget.
  3. Now, click Add a printer or scanner.
  4. Let your computer search. This may take a minute. When it shows the Tally printer again, click Add.

FAQs

Why Is My Tally Printer Suddenly Not Printing?

If your printer suddenly stops printing, there is a chance that your printer’s connection is faulty. Plus, when the printer drivers and software are not up to date or the print queue is overloaded, it can contribute to printing-related problems. If your printer settings are incorrect, it will lead to sudden printing errors.

If your printer has stopped printing and you want to fix it, verify its connection. Check if your printer’s connection, whether wired or wireless, is configured correctly. Also, check your print queue and delete all the pending print jobs. If this doesn’t fix your issue, remove and re-add your printer on your device.

If your printer is connected to a wireless network but not printing, it could be due to out-of-date printer drivers and firmware, a weak internet connection, or any other technical issue in the printer. Sometimes, it can also happen due to a print job stuck in the print queue.
